An Aussie named Todd on a perfect early morning at Punta Roca, El Salvador.  Though the wave at La Libertad has remained one of the best in Central America for years, the crowds have been held down either by civil war - you know a country's military was truly evil when their upper brass had nicknames like "Blowtorch Bob" - or by an astronomical crime rate since the end of the war.  Salvador is still as overcrowded and poor as ever, so visitors are obvious targets.  (See my chapters on Salvador in The Hungry Years.)  That's probably why I like the place so much.  Click on the visible part of Todd to go to my image library of surfing photos.
